Romeo the capybara came to the surgery department at LVVSC for a fracture repair. The capybara is related to the guinea pig, and an adult can weigh from 77 up to 150 pounds, and stand 20 to 25 inches tall at the shoulder.
Romeo is just a little guy still, he has a lot of growing to do! Capybaras are very vocal and they can make dog-like barks. They are herbivores, and chew food by grinding back-and-forth rather than side-to-side. Romeo came through surgery with flying colors and is recovering nicely at home.
